Welcome to Pebblebed House
Holiday house available for lettings with stunning river views and local wine connection. Sleeps up to 8 people.
The beautiful old port town of Topsham on the estuary of the River Exe is home to Pebblebed House, a large three bedroom holiday home offering style, comfort and location.
Accommodating up to eight, the spacious house is situated in the heart of the town, which lies south of Devon's historic city of Exeter. Overlooking the River Exe, the character house is full of charm, and radiates its own distinctive style, which was created by the house owner Anna Bowen.
Pebblebed House has been designed to combine beauty and comfort with a stylish, informal feel to all of its rooms. Tastefully decorated throughout, the house has a lovely 'seaside' theme that is at once distinctive and wholly casual and relaxing. Helping to create its unique character are plenty of individual features, as well as handmade or personally collected objects, including driftwood and dreamboats.
Downstairs the house has a lovely bright and calming living/dining room with wood burning stove and pretty picture window offering views of the river, along with a well-equipped kitchen and ground floor bathroom.
On the first floor are the three good sized bedrooms, including two doubles with private access to the wood balcony overlooking the river, and a large bunk room featuring two sets of bunk beds, one of which has a pull-out truckle bed. A second family bathroom with roll top bath is also situated upstairs.
The beautifully furnished house is ideal for families or friends seeking the perfect place to enjoy a traditional seaside holiday, as well as others who are looking to discover the local wildlife, appreciate a spot of bird watching, wander the many local footpaths, or just relax beside the river.
Pebblebed House dates back to the days when Topsham was a thriving port. The house was once a riverside warehouse that was sympathetically converted at the turn of the century into a comfortable and atmospheric residence, which, in keeping with its past has retained a spacious open feel, wood boards and bright 'seaside' décor.
Pebblebed House is under the same ownership as nearby Pebblebed Vineyards 5 minutes drive outside Topsham. Vineyard Tours run May to September and included in your stay is a complimentary vineyard tour and wine tasting. Pebblebed also have a nearby cellar bar where you can have delicious homemade pizzas, local tapas boards and of course sample the delicious local wines!
As the old port for Exeter, Topsham is well known for its seafaring history, and more recently as a centre for excellent local food and drink. The town, which has many restaurants and pubs, is famous for the Exe salmon, as well as shellfish freshly caught from the estuary. There are also some wonderful specialist food shops in the main high street, and on a Saturday morning at the market, which can be found in the Town Hall.
At low tide admire the traditional workings of the fishing trade, as fishermen cast their nets into the estuary in search of an elusive catch. This fascinating pastime, along with the town's historic architecture and range of shops and restaurants, has helped to create Topsham's wonderful atmosphere, which has become so popular with visitors in recent years. Numerous activities can also be pursued in and around Topsham. Some of the most popular include walking, sailing, windsurfing, kite-surfing, canoeing, cycling (a traffic-free cycle path runs to Exeter), golf (we recommend the nearby Woodbury Park), bird watching (a protected bird sanctuary can be discovered on the Exe estuary) and much more.
